Ambassador Sarah Hamilton has served as Ambassador of Ireland to the Republic of Cyprus since September 2025. A senior Irish diplomat with over two decades of experience, she has held a range of leadership roles across Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs, including Deputy Director for China in the Asia Pacific Unit and Deputy Director for Strategy, Corporate Governance and Renewal.
Ambassador Hamilton has extensive expertise in European affairs, having served at Ireland’s Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels, where she was Ireland’s delegate to the EU working groups on Enlargement and the Western Balkans. Her career has also encompassed development cooperation, trade, digital transformation and public sector reform, including serving as ICT Services Manager and Deputy Private Secretary to the Minister of State for Development Cooperation and Trade.
Drawing on her experience in governance, policy development and citizen engagement across national and European institutions, Ambassador Hamilton brings a valuable perspective to discussions on democratic participation and the role of citizens’ assemblies in shaping public policy.
